The Kitakyushu monorail runs from Kokura to Kikugaoka. Also a fleeting view of the Chikuho Electric Railway at Kurosaki as we sped past.

Matsuura Railway

The Matsuura Railway runs from Sasebo via the most Westerly railway staton in Japan, Tabirahiradoguchi, to Imara and Arita

Kumamoto, Kyushu

Kumamoto, Kyushu, was our base for a few days so we explored its tram network, took a ride on three private railways, the Hisatsu railway, the Kumagawa Railway and the Kumamoto Electric railway and the 'SL Hitoyoshi' steam train.

Hisatsu Orange Railway

We took JR to Yatsushiro and joined the Hisatsu Orange Railway which runs from Yatsushiro to Satsuma but we only travelled as far as Minamata.

SL Hitoyoshi steam train

The SL Hitoyoshi steam train runs from Kumamoto to Hitoyoshi.

Kumamoto Electric Railway

The Kumamoto Electric Railway runs nearly 7 miles to Miyoshi

Kumagawa Railway

The Kumagawa Railway runs from the steam train terminus at Hitoyoshi to Yunomae. We just had time for a there-and-back return but it was jam-packed.
